The Chinese technology giant is not hesitant and is working hard on new products for 2019. One of them will be a new smartphone with an amazing 48 MPx camera. It is supposed to be the result of hard work by engineers from the mobile camera division, which Xiaomi opened only this year.
(Modest) official information
Information about this news from Xiaomi comes directly from the official source - Xiaomi's co-founder, Bin Lin. He published a photo on his Weibo profile, which reveals little that the new mysterious smartphone will carry a 48 MPx sensor. He added that we can look forward to the news in January.
There are not many smartphones with such a camera on the market at the moment. The Nokia 808 Pureview from 2012 has a 41 MPx sensor, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with a 40 MPx camera. In total, there are not that many sensors with 48 MPx resolution and they are rare. Only two sensors are possible.
Just two options
The first is the 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 with a four-sided Bayer pattern, which was introduced in July. It's a big, 1/2 ″ sensor, but it has so many pixels that each is only 0,8μm big. The second option is the Samsung Bright GM1 sensor from this October. It also has 0,8 μm pixels.
This type of sensor uses pixel merging to improve the quality of photos, but their high number of pixels also enables high-quality digital zoom. Nevertheless, Huawei has incorporated a telephoto lens into the Mate 20 Pro, which is reserved for lossless zoom photos. We wonder how Xiaomi has come up with this and whether he is building on the same tactics or going the way of Google, which has already proven that it can work miracles with a single sensor.
