After its separation from Xiaomi, Redmi has already introduced several products and the black AirDots were among their first. After a long wait from China, we were very pleasantly surprised and we also had the opportunity to compare them with the more expensive Xiaomi AirDots Pro. We have to say that they follow them in a really solid way.
So what are they like Redmi AirDots actually? You can read this in our comprehensive review.

So you don't be confused
To begin with, it would be good to mention a very similar product - Xiaomi AirDots. These headphones are almost the same, the difference is mainly in color, Xiaomi AirDots are white, have touch controls instead of physical buttons, are a fraction larger and heavier and compared to Redmi AirDots are about 10 € more expensive.
This is also the main reason why Redmi headphones are more popular. Below you will find a table with a complete comparison of the specifications of Redmi AirDots vs Xiaomi AirDots.

How to pair them
Since the manual is in Chinese, we had a little trouble pairing at the beginning, but it's not complicated. You have to remove the headphones from the box, hold the buttons longer until they start flashing white when switching on. These are then paired with each other and only one handset should remain active - Right.
This is also the main handset you connect to your smartphone. So, on a smartphone you choose between Bluetooth devices Redmi AirDots_R, headphones and smartphone are paired and you can start enjoying great sound.
If you want to connect a new device, you need to reset them, so you will repeat the same procedure. The next time you switch on the headphones, they are immediately paired with the device. Thus, only the initial connection with the headphones is longer.
packing
The headphones come in a blue and white box, but there are Chinese characters everywhere, so you don't read much. But the content is important - inside there are Redmi AirDots headphones in the charging box together with a pair of spare rubber bands and a manual (again in Chinese).
In reality, they are much smaller than we expected
The Redmi AirDots headphones come in black, and therefore also with a black charging box. Everything is made of plastic. The charging box is pleasant to the touch, as it is coated with a matt black paint.
After the first unpacking, we were pleasantly surprised by how small they are. Together with the charging box, they weigh only 35.4 g and you can easily carry them in your trouser pocket. You won't even feel them there. The dimensions of the box are 62 x 40 x 27.2 mm.
The headphones themselves are very small and compact, so they do not look unnatural on the ears. They are worn comfortably and hold even when running. At first you will think a bit about how to deploy them, but then you will get used to them.
On its front side, each handset contains a physical button and an LED light. There are charging pins on the inside. There are microphones at the bottom.
Redmi had to cut back a bit because of the price. If you are not listening to music, you may be bothered by the "banging" of buttons that do not fit completely firmly and can be heard. But this is not a tragedy, and not every ordinary user may even notice it. After all, who uses headphones without music?
We would also mention the not entirely happy decision for the size of the button, which we constantly pressed when repairing the earphone. Perhaps if the manufacturer decided to reduce it so that it did not occupy the entire front, the headphones would be more practical in this aspect.
Charging box
After touching the box, you will immediately understand which target Xiaomi is heading for. These are not high-end headphones, but this gadget is intended to make your moments while traveling or waiting for the train more pleasant. Their dimensions and low weight are therefore very suitable for carrying.
The charging box has magnets in it, which hold the headphones and allow the pins to make contact for charging. This is done wirelessly. The box has a battery capacity of 300 mAh and each of the headphones 40 mAh.
When placed in the box, the headphones turn off automatically, and when removed, it is the other way around, which is very practical. The lid of the box has a magnetic closure and you have a very satisfying feeling when closing it.
The box is charged via the microUSB connector and there is also an LED light on the front, which indicates whether it is already charged. It is not possible to monitor the current state of the battery, which we take as a disadvantage. You can find out that the box no longer charges the headphones via the battery status of the headphones in the mobile phone.
Sufficient endurance
According to the manufacturer, the headphones should last up to 12 hours together with the box. As for the endurance of the headphones themselves, Redmi states the number 4 hours, but in our test they lasted over 3 hours and 10 minutes.
Together with the charging box, we reached the endurance of 9,5 hours, which is still a very decent value. Of course, it depends on the volume level at which you listen to music. We kept somewhere at 75-100% of the volume.
How do they really play?
We compared the sound quality with the Xiaomi AirDots Pro and in our humble opinion, the cheaper Redmi have more penetrating basses. That's what surprised us the most, but the AirDots Pro are more height-oriented. It depends on the user's preference and certainly also on the genre of music.
Overall, we have nothing to complain about and we can say that at a price level of around € 20, these are so far the best headphones we have had the opportunity to try. Of course, wireless headphones.
They support HFP, A2DP, HSP and AVRCP Bluetooth protocols, which ensure the lowest possible loss in wireless audio transmission. They use the latest Bluetooth 5.0.
Hassle-free telephony
Use the physical buttons to stop and start music. We missed switching songs that can't be done with the buttons. The second control option is to use the Google Assistant voice assistant, with which you can communicate using microphones.
You can also use the buttons to answer and end a call. Thanks to the built-in microphones, it is also possible to use the hands-free function and it works great. When making a phone call, we had no problems with the other party hearing us badly.
The best accessory for your smartphone
We can only speak positively about Redmi AirDots, and this company has once again shown us that it can create quality and very affordable products. Excellent bass, compact dimensions of the box and headphones, fast pairing and low price are the parameters that will make this product popular.
Redmi AirDots wireless headphones
We are not afraid to say that Redmi AirDots headphones are among the best pieces of accessories you can buy for your smartphone. We definitely recommend them.
They arrived today, they look really amazing and the sound is unreal, I don't even catch them on the 70-euro BT mussels, I'm just a little disappointed that it's not possible to skip songs and edit the volume without the help of a mobile phone, so at least I didn't figure it out, other hearing aids of this type can handle it… but otherwise for that price maximum enthusiasm 🙂
I ordered them a week ago and they're still not shipped.
A small question, when the LED lights up red while charging, is the box still charging? respectively. what happens to saltpeter when the box is charged?
How do I make both hearing aids play for me, because when I pair them with my phone, I only play left or right. please reply 🙁
