The housing contains the necessary cut-outs, including for a non-traditionally placed fingerprint reader.
Below is the smartphone itself covered with a protective foil. Below it, there is a charging cable with a modern and universal USB type C connector. The end of the fast cable charger is also included directly in the package. It contains a local European adapter and offers power of up to 33W.
Device layout
Model with marking Redmi Note 9 Pro is larger, mainly due to the large diagonal of the display. Its dimensions stopped at 165,8 x 76,7 x 8,8 mm, and the weight of this device was subsequently 209 grams. In this case, a high battery capacity can also be responsible for the higher value.
The front side contains the aforementioned size up to 6,67 displej IPS display, which also includes a modern shot at the top. It contains the lens of the front camera, but the size of this element does not exceed 1 centimeter and does not cause too much distraction.
Above the display is a speaker designed for telephony, which also gently completes the stereo effect when playing music or video. However, it is not a full-fledged stereo speaker system. In this section there is also a group of necessary sensors, for example for adjusting the brightness.
The lower part of the display is unused and only forms a kind of imaginary chin of the smartphone. The display is also covered with a protective foil, which has been installed directly by the manufacturer since production. The frames around the display are thicker than flagship smartphones, but this is not explicitly a negative.
The upper edge of the smartphone is traditionally with the series Redmi Note home infrared sensor. It will be used for remote control of home electronics and is supplemented with appropriate software. In this part of the smartphone, there is also a secondary microphone, which you can use, for example, for undisturbed video recording.
The bottom edge is a bit more interesting. It contains a loud speaker, which is, however, of average quality, but it is loud enough especially to ring an incoming call.
There is also a USB type C connector for charging, a primary microphone designed for telephony, but also a standard 3,5 mm audio connector, which will delight especially fans of wired headphones.
Up to four rear cameras
The left side edge is completely empty, it only contains a slot for inserting a pair of NanoSIM cards (DualSIM) or also a microSDXC memory card, which expands the internal storage (dedicated slot).
The right side edge is home to the volume buttons, but also contains a wide button to turn on or off. turn off the device. This button is untraditionally shaped longitudinally, mainly because it also contains an integrated fingerprint reader. It is a finely recessed and easily palpable element.
The back contains a module with four rear cameras in its upper half. These protrude quite significantly from the body of the device and a pair of them also contain a chrome hoop. Below this module there is also an LED flash and information about the 64 MPx resolution of the main camera.
The color treatment of the back wall is gradient, it is tempered glass and the color changes its tone mainly according to the angle of the incident light, which also applies to our gray or gray color version. Display: 6,67 ”IPS
The phone features a large display of up to 6,67 ″, which offers IPS LCD technology and 16 million colors. It offers Full HD + resolution (2040 x 1080 pixels) and a 20: 9 aspect ratio.
These properties make an overall fineness of 395 ppi. The panel is also covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Of course, this panel does not offer the quality of flagship AMOLED panels, but in the given price category it is a very successful panel and it is definitely one of the best IPS panels on the market.
The minimum brightness is fine even in complete darkness, there is no possibility of color correction in the settings, but also a night mode that saves the eyes with a blue light filter.
In direct sunlight, we would like an even higher brightness, but this is not a disaster and the information is easy to read.
The viewing angles of this display are excellent and we did not notice any problems with its response. In addition, the panel covers almost 86% of the front wall.
Performance: You don't have to be ashamed of Snapdragon
In terms of performance, an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor is available, which is manufactured using 8nm technology.
The composition of the cores of this processor is as follows: 2 x 2,3 GHz Kryo 465 Gold + 6 x 1,8 GHz Kryo 465 Silver. The processor itself is complemented by the Adreno 618 graphics accelerator.
In normal use, we did not notice any performance problems, the smartphone handled advanced multitasking, a larger number of running applications, and no problems occurred even with less graphically demanding game titles.
We can also thank the relatively high capacity of RAM, which we will talk about more in the next chapter.
The fact remains that the performance of the smartphone is absolutely fine in the given price category and is even higher than in the case of its predecessor with the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which, however, contained a processor from MediaTek.
The novelty will offer Snapdragon from the seventh row, for which he definitely does not have to be ashamed. The AnTuTu benchmark tests we present in the photos can help you compare performance.
Memory: The more, the better
Model Redmi Note 9 Pro is sold in our configurations, but also in other international markets, in several configurations. There is a basic version of 6 GB RAM + 64 GB UFS 2.1 internal storage, but also a more equipped version that offers 6 GB RAM + 128 GB UFS 2.1 storage.
It is a relatively fast storage, but you can expand it with a microSDXC memory card if necessary. The phone has a dedicated, ie separate memory card slot. In this case, you can use two SIM cards and, in addition, a memory card.
After the first power on and initial installation of several dozen applications, the smartphone showed us a little more than 43 GB of free storage out of a total capacity of 64 GB. The Android system and the graphic superstructure subsequently cut approximately 15,5 GB of space. So if your financial options allow you to buy a higher version, do not hesitate and reach for the 128 GB version.
Side fingerprint sensor
The smartphone contains a fingerprint reader untraditionally located on the right side of the device. It is conveniently located, is slightly embedded in the body of the device and also serves as a button to turn the device on or off.
The high-quality sensor of the reader reacts very quickly and is comparably fast as a standard sensor located on the back. In addition, it is a longitudinally positioned sensor and its good response also depends on a suitable grip of the device. It is a larger smartphone and therefore especially smaller hands can sometimes have a problem with feeling the reader itself.
On the other hand, this sensor had reliable reactions even with mild grease or moisture on the fingers. Especially modern sensors located under the surface of the display cannot do this. The manufacturer definitely deserves praise for the processing of the sensor and its location.
Android + MIUI
The Android operating system in version 10 (QKQ1.191215.002) is available in terms of software. There is also a security update that includes security packages directly from Google. This update is dated 01.06.2020, for which the manufacturer definitely deserves praise.
The operating system is also complemented by the well-known massive graphical superstructure in the version MIUI 11, specifically the version called MIUI Global 11.0.4.0 Stable version (QJZMIXM).
The extension will offer standard features, including integrated Google Mobile Services, dark mode, updated font, but also digital balance function and smartphone usage monitoring.
We did not notice any software deficiencies while using the device. The phone responded quickly, smoothly, mainly thanks to good optimization of the software itself, but also hardware and sufficient RAM capacity, which in our case is 6 GB.
Camera: Up to 64 MPx
Model Redmi Note 9 Pro will offer four rear cameras located in one common module, which protrudes from the body of the smartphone. The main sensor has 64 MPx (f / 1.9), which is complemented by three other cameras.
Namely, it is an 8 MPx (f / 2.2) ultra-wide sensor, with which we were extremely satisfied, there is also up to 5 MPx (f / 2.4) macro lens with Autofocus function, but also a 2 MPx (f / 2.4) depth sensor, who is mainly responsible for the effective background blur. There is an LED flash under the rear camera module.
Features such as HDR or panorama, ultra-slow motion 720p video (960 fps) and more are not missing. The rear camera can record 4K (30 fps) video. The front camera offers a resolution of 16 MPx (f / 2.5), is located in a space at the top of the screen and offers 1080p video recording (30/120 fps).

The photographic properties in daylight were at a good level due to the price. We were particularly interested in the results of the ultra-wide-angle camera, which offered a sufficient amount of detail and we did not notice excessive image distortion.
However, with the loss of light in this case, the quality of the image also decreased, which was reflected in indoor photographs, but also in night or evening shots. These cannot even be compared with the quality of flagship models. The camera definitely has some compromises.
Connectivity
4G (LTE-A) connectivity is available on channels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40 and 41. Dual Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g is not available / n / ac with Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth 5.0 LE support with A2DP support.
Fans of sports activities will enjoy GPS connectivity, integrated A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO or BDS technology. We didn't see any connection problems, it was fast, in a matter of seconds. In terms of reliability, there was also no problem with a possible deviation, which was in the order of only a few meters.
An NFC chip is also available for making contactless payments, such as Google Pay. We also tested the payments with our payment card and it worked without any problems.
You will enjoy the infrared sensor for controlling home electronics, as well as the FM radio with recording function. A USB type C connector with support for the USB OTG function is intended for charging, fans of classic wired headphones will also enjoy the 3,5 mm audio connector.

Model Redmi Note 9 Pro contains an accumulator with an above-standard high capacity at the level of 5020 mAh. In addition to high capacity, support for fast 30W cable charging is also available. In addition, support comes directly in the package thanks to a 33W local adapter.
Thanks to the economical processor, the phone competes for one of the best models in terms of battery life per charge. With standard use, we had no problem achieving almost two days of endurance, with the display on time at the level of 5 - 7 hours.
Standard use in our case included active use of social networks, regular photography or video recording, there was an hour-long phone call, an hour-long viewing of Full HD videos, but also the occasional playing of mobile games. The manufacturer definitely deserves praise for the used battery and the resulting endurance per charge.
Final rating: The best middle-class smartphone
What seemed impossible becomes a reality. Redmi Note 9 Pro is the best middle - class smartphone, which in its price category also offers equipment of several tens of euros more expensive smartphones.
The main advantage of this device is very good endurance on a single charge, quality and proven camera, but also a large IPS display or NFC connectivity, all at an extremely affordable selling price, whether from import, but also within the official distribution.
