Photo results are one of the main criteria when buying a new smartphone. This is not the case in the segment of premium and expensive equipment. In today's article, we compare the photos and features of integrated camera sensors in the case of two top current flagship smartphones. Xiaomi 12 Pro a I live X70 Pro +.
A test with these smartphones has been posted on its YouTube channels by a popular creator with a nickname Han's Tech Talk. See how it turned out latest Xiaomi 12 Pro compared to its direct Chinese competitor, the hierarchically highest model in Vivo's portfolio.
Xiaomi 12 Pro vs Vivo X70 Pro +
First of all, we will summarize the technical specifications of both smartphones, in the field of cameras. Both devices have their pros and cons, both support the recording of up to 8K video, but they also have their weaknesses, which were also reflected in the resulting photos. You will find the individual photo sensors in the detailed summary below:
Xiaomi 12 Pro
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) main sensor Sony IMX707, Dual-Pixel PDAF, optical stabilization
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) telephoto lens, 2 x optical zoom, PDAF technology
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) ultra-wide, angle 115 °
- Front camera 32 MPx
- 8K video (24 fps)
I live X70 Pro +
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) main sensor, Zeiss optics, Dual-Pixel PDAF, laser focusing, optical stabilization
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) 50 mm telephoto lens, PDAF technology, 2 x optical zoom, optical stabilization
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) 125 mm periscope telephoto lens, PDAF, 5 x optical zoom, optical stabilization
- Xnumx MPx (f / Xnumx) ultra wide angle, 114 ° angle, gimbal image stabilization
- Front camera 32 MPx (f / 2.5)
- 8K video (30 fps)
Model Xiaomi 12 Pro impresses with three 50 MPx sensors. The main one is the sensor Sony IMX707 (1 / 1,28 ”, f / 1.9, 2,44 µm) with optical image stabilization, which is complemented by a 50 MPx ultra-wide angle sensor (115 °) and a third 50 MPx telephoto lens. It offers support for up to 8K video recording at 24 fps.
I live X70 Pro + will offer a major 50 MPx (f / 1.6) sensors, which also includes optical stabilization, PDAF technology and laser focusing. This sensor is complemented by 48 MPx ultra-wide angle camera (114 °), which is also equipped with a unique gimbal stabilization, there is also a 12 MPx telephoto lens with optical stabilization and 8x optical zoom and an XNUMX MPx periscope telephoto lens with optical stabilization and XNUMXx optical zoom.
We can't even omit information about Zeiss optics, which the manufacturer included in the equipment Living and also about the specific surface treatment of the Zeiss T lens. The smartphone supports 8K video at 30 fps.
Which couple takes better photos?
The testing of both devices took place under the same conditions, while the video creator emphasized the switching of different lenses in different lighting conditions. There is also night photography, but ultra-wide-angle photography, for example, has also been represented.
Right at the beginning of the testing, we have a video recording from the front camera, a video recording from the rear camera (4K) and also a video recording from the rear camera in poor lighting conditions. It is in this test that both devices are relatively balanced, although Vivo offers slightly better image stabilization and more light.
This is followed by standard testing of photos in natural, daylight. In this comparison, we can view photos from the main sensor, ultra-wide sensor, but also zoomed photos using optical zoom. It is during this testing that all the trumps of the integrated lenses can be shown.
Ultra-wide cameras could be considered fairly balanced when looking at paper. However, Vivo dominates with gimbal stabilization and due to the price of smartphones, the shots will definitely be usable.
Vivo again offered more consistent results, and it also has a larger optical zoom. However, Xiaomi is not bad at all, she has a very good Sony IMX707 sensor, but "post-processing", ie software editing of photos after capturing them still requires editing. The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is known for its frequent software fixes, so we may see improvements in the near future.
As part of testing, we can also compare photos capturing a human person, portrait mode, or "selfie" photos. Testing is completed by night photos, which are often a key difference when comparing. This is not the case in this case either, and again the gaps of the Xiaomi smartphone are showing. Vivo offers slightly better results with less noise.
If we were to declare an imaginary draw, both smartphones could award one in interior photography. That is, under artificial lighting, for example in a shop, in a shopping center. Where Xiaomi was surprised is the night video, but the fairly balanced results are more disappointing with the performance of the Vivo smartphone.

Final evaluation: Xiaomi or Vivo?
Both flagship smartphones, Xiaomi 12 Pro a I live X70 Pro +, are relatively expensive devices. With a price attacking 900-1000 € a mistake in terms of performance, but you definitely won't make a mistake with the camera either. The difference is mainly in the details, which, however, play in favor of the Vivo smartphone. The latter has better image stabilization, but also less noise or more sharpness and truly natural colors, with only a slight intervention of AI.

On the other hand, Xiaomi loses in detail, sometimes offering an oversaturated or undersized image, but the white balance as well as the stabilization or results of night photography can still be improved by the manufacturer in a possible software update.
However, to date, with the current version of the system, the 12 Pro is pulling slightly behind and needs to be improved. You can watch more photos and videos on the YouTube video below.
