Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is preparing its premium flagship smartphone with the sign Xiaomi 12Ultra. It also gets an improved, and therefore more powerful processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ from the workshop of the Canadian company Qualcomm. This processor should, like the current model, be made with 4 nm technology.
Xiaomi 12 Ultra: Premium device with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor
After confirmation of preparations at the flagship facility Xiaomi 12Ultra here we have another interesting leak of information. This time it concerns the processor that is to be included in this smartphone. It should be a model that has not yet been introduced and improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+.
The news comes from a popular Chinese profile called Digital Chat Station, which published them through the Chinese social network Weibo. The paper states that the model Xiaomi L2S, codenamed 2206122SC, will include a processor coded Qualcomm SM8475. The leak also reveals that the launch date of this facility will take place during the third quarter of 2022.
To explain, it has been revealed in previous leaks that the Xiaomi L2S model is the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra. This leak was confirmed by a photo from the IMEI database. In addition, the Qualcomm SM8475 chip should be the successor to the Qualcomm SM8450 (currently also known as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1).
The new processor should keep this new label and should also continue to label the updated version. We expect the final designation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. All indications are that this processor will be manufactured using 4 nm technology, but it should be a technology from TSMC and not the process used by the South Korean company Samsung.
Samsung or TSMC 4 nm production technology?
This information leakage may have a positive effect, especially for those fans who have decided to postpone the purchase of the new Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro smartphones, and prefer to wait for the hierarchically highest model from the Xiaomi brand.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is a slight weakness in current flagship devices because it delivers slightly inconsistent performance at high loads. And that's what an improved and more powerful version could help solve, later in 2022.
The mentioned performance problems, which appeared on the flagship smartphones Xiaomi, but also on competing models Motorola or Realme, were attributed by many mainly to the production process. Snapdragon 8 Gen1 namely, it uses 4 nm process technology Samsung LSI. Previous generations such as Snapdragon 870, Snapdragon 865 or Snapdragon 855 did not show these problems and had a TSMC process.
We wonder how Qualcomm will cope with improving its flagship processor and whether the upcoming model will bring better thermal performance, better energy efficiency and also better performance compared to the current model.
