Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphone in China with the name Xiaomi 12S Ultra. And the popular YouTuber MrWhosetheboss has already prepared a detailed review of this smartphone, in which he compares the main functions, but especially the camera, with a premium flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Which one dominated?
The most modern technologies in one smartphone
Right at the beginning of the video, the Youtuber revealed that Xiaomi 12S Ultra has been using for about a month. In the design, he highlighted the matte leather surface of the back wall, which does not capture fingerprints and is textured. He also highlighted the round module of the rear cameras and, when compared to the Samsung smartphone, awarded the win in this category to Xiaomi.
Regarding the display, he emphasized the use of a 6,73" AMOLED panel with a cutout for the front camera, but he was especially disappointed by the thicker frames compared to Xiaomi 11Ultra, as well as from slightly worse viewing angles. Point for Samsung. And likewise, a point for the software support from the manufacturer went to the side of the Korean manufacturer. Samsung guarantees 4 years of updates.
However, other positives in favor of Xiaomi speak clearly. It's about power and battery. Xiaomi bet on the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which has a world premiere in the case of the Xiaomi 12S series. MrWhosetheboss highlighted performance in graphically demanding gaming titles as well as smooth everyday use. However, he criticized the bloatware in the system.
As for the battery, it has a capacity of up to 4 mAh, and compared to Samsung, it also has more powerful 860 W wired charging, 67 W fast wireless charging and up to 50 W reverse charging, for example for accessories. The Youtuber also highlighted exemplary settings for the battery directly in the smartphone. You can set individual rules or restrictions for applications with just a few clicks.
The best photographic hardware you can find in a smartphone
The most important and probably the most dramatic comparison was the camera comparison. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has long been seen as one of the best Android smartphones, even when it comes to mobile photography.
It offers a 108 MPx main sensor with laser focus and OIS, a 12 MPx ultra-wide-angle sensor (120°), a 10 MPx periscopic telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom and OIS, as well as a 10 MPx telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and OIS.
On the other side is Xiaomi. It is equipped with a main sensor Sony IMX989 with up to 1″ size and resolution 50 MPx. The second sensor is a 48 MPx ultra-wide-angle sensor with automatic focus, so you can also use it to take macro shots. Thirdly, we find a 48 MPx periscopic lens with a Sony IMX586 sensor. It offers a double optical zoom. Optical stabilization is also pleasing Hyper OIS.
Even with the first photos, the popular YouTuber particularly highlighted the sharpness of the image, as well as the natural blurring of the background behind the subject of the photo. Samsung usually surprised with a richer image, but after zooming in on this image, it was Xiaomi that offered more details.
In addition, the Chinese manufacturer dominates the Korean one in terms of video as well. Especially in features such as motion stabilization or the HDR function. Various integrated film modes, a mode for scanning documents or a multi-camera mode with six different shots are also an advantage.
In the review, we can also hear criticism of cooperation with the brand Leica. In addition to filters and shutter sounds, Leica also brings its own color correction. There are two styles to choose from, Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant. However, both styles are characterized by unnatural and high color saturation.
In the comparison of cameras, Xiaomi wins in the case of the primary 50 MPx sensor, which you will probably use most often. Samsung will offer a little more in the case of an ultra-wide-angle sensor, optical zoom or its own color correction.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra or Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra?
As he says MrWhosetheboss, we cannot unequivocally declare which of the pair of flagship smartphones is better. These are extremely balanced devices, so your final choice must be determined by details or personal preferences for certain functions.
