Our favorite Chinese tech giant Xiaomi achieved excellent growth. It can even surpass giants such as American Apple or South Korean Samsung.
Xiaomi and the defeat of Samsung and Apple as a matter of time?
The latest information published by the company IDC they are talking about selling smartphones for the second quarter of 2024. And it's good news. The mobile market is waking up and continues to grow for the fourth quarter in a row. The total sales of smartphones recorded an increase of 6,5%, which is reflected in the total number 285 million smartphones sold.
The current ranking speaks volumes. The company has the first rung Samsung, followed by the popular American brand Apple . But what really stands out is the company's third place Xiaomi with truly exceptional growth, which is beginning to threaten even the big leaders of this ranking.
Samsung's first place in the current ranking speaks of market share at the level of 19,8%. Next is Apple, which has 15,8%. The third Xiaomi, which is hot on its heels, scored 14,8% and the Chinese brands in fourth and fifth place will not be embarrassed either. This is Vivo with a share 9,1% and Oppo, which has equals 9%.
If we look exclusively at market shares, it may seem that Xiaomi still has a long way to go for the throne of smartphone manufacturers. However, the key parameter is year-on-year growth. While the leaders of the ranking, Samsung and Apple, recorded an increase of 0,7% and 1,5%, the Chinese company Xiaomi is growing up to by an incredible 27,4%!
If the pace of this growth continues, for Xiaomi the first place in the ranking may be a matter of another two or three quarters. However, it is also necessary to monitor the Vivo brand, which also recorded significant year-on-year growth up to 21,9%.
Different price categories and the introduction of the new Apple iPhone 16 series
IDC sees a significant difference, especially in different price ranges. The premium category of smartphones is dominated by Samsung and Apple, which also brings more profits to these companies. In the middle class and in the affordable segment, there is a stronger presence of Chinese brands, and their shipment growth rate is also greater.
Understandably, it is clear that the premium segment of devices is smaller in terms of sales numbers. However, brands like Xiaomi or Vivo are growing at such a significant pace that it is definitely not only thanks to the loaded flagship models, but mainly thanks to balanced pieces in the middle class and entry segment.
Let's not forget that there are several other key factors. Xiaomi needs to increase the number of delivered units of its devices, where it is currently losing significantly. With theirs 33 million delivered ranks cannot yet be compared with Samsung, which delivered 53 million smartphones.
Apple subsequently added 44,5 million, however, it should not be forgotten that the performance of the series iPhone 16 is still ahead of us and this number will definitely increase in the following quarters.
