In this article, too, we will return to the Xiaomi press conference, which took place on 24 September / September 2019. This time, however, there will be no talk of the outrageous Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, or an improved flagship Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro.
Let's look into the bowels of the latest software superstructure MIUI 11, which was also presented at the press conference.
What do the codes in the new MIUI 11 reveal?
After introducing a new version of the popular software add-on for Xiaomi phones and Redmi started rolling out its beta test almost immediately. One of the members of the XDA - developers team decided to examine the code of the built-in camera and camera app. His goal was to discover new functions and he succeeded.
After a more detailed analysis, it emerged that the Camera application in the new MIUI 11 contains code strings that create support for high-definition video capture. These are the so-called 8K resolution 7680 × 4320 pixels at a frame rate of 30 frames per second (30 fps).
Code sample:
<string name = "pref_video_quality_entry_8kuhd"> UHD 8K, 30fps </string>
<string name = "video_ultra_clear_tip_8k"> 8 K UHD </string>
Another proof of the new functionality was the logo in the Camera application in MIUI 11, which should indicate a new profile in the application, thanks to which it will be possible to capture video in ultra HD resolution. Below you can see the real logo that was taken from the new camera application in MIUI 11.
Of course, software editing is not enough for 8K filming. At present, however, neither Xiaomi nor any other manufacturer has a phone whose hardware can create this type of video. Even the latest and most expensive Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is not yet predisposed to such performance.
On the one hand, the manufacturer would certainly not forget to brag about such functionality. Next, the integrated 108 MPx from Samsung, according to the available parameters, can handle a maximum of 6K video at a frequency of 30 fps.
Filming in 8K with 30 fps also requires considerable demands on the processor. Currently, the most powerful Snapdragon 855 or 855+ chipsets also do not support such a scanning range. The maximum supported video quality from the point of view of Snapdragon processors is currently at the level of 4K resolution with 60 fps.
We should not wait long for a new smartphone
It seems that Xiaomi will soon pull another ace up his sleeve in the form of a new smartphone capable of producing 8K / 30 fps video, and which will have a new most powerful processor. It is rumored that the next generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the successor to the 855 and 855+ chipsets, could go.
And the fact that we are not talking about the distant future is confirmed by a new series of televisions Xiaomi Mi TV Prowhich gained the ability to play 8K videos. Everything fits together perfectly and we can't wait for what Xiaomi will show us again.
