The Chinese brand Xiaomi introduced, in addition to the flagship smartphones Xiaomi 12 or Xiaomi 12 Pro also a new night photo mode Night Owl 2.0. It improves the algorithm itself already used in some previous devices and takes photos in poor lighting to a higher level.
Night Owl 2.0: Innovative night photography mode from Xiaomi
A number of fans will certainly remember the presentation of the previous flagship Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro resp. Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, which took place during April 2021. In addition, these state-of-the-art devices also hid a new algorithm Night Owl.
This algorithm aimed to achieve better results in night photography. However, the company continues to work on improving this algorithm and a new flagship smartphone Xiaomi 12 Pro brings us an updated algorithm with the designation Night Owl 2.0.
The algorithm is tailored to the Xiaomi 12 Pro camera
To get a little closer to the context, let's go back to configuring the rear cameras of the Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphone. The main one is the 50 MPx sensor Sony IMX707, which is also complemented by a 50 MPx ultra-wide angle lens and a 50 MPx telephoto lens. These three sensors are jointly responsible for collecting all the data we see in our photos.
Due to the high sensitivity of these sensors to light, Xiaomi has managed to develop an algorithm that uses the maximum possibilities of the used configuration. Each of the rear cameras records the amount of information that is processed by this algorithm.
A big novelty of the second generation of this algorithm is the performance of the cameras in the "Portrait" mode in low light. HDR improves, the image is brighter and much more balanced than images from previous models. In addition, such photography has less noise, which you will especially appreciate when photographing people.
Cyber Focus and other camera enhancements
An interesting feature that also benefits from the new "Night Owl 2.0" algorithm is the new functionality called Cyber Focus. It is a tool that allows the Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphone to capture potentially moving objects a little faster, regardless of whether the object is currently moving or static. It is this function that brings better results even with this type of photo.
Image stabilization is also improved, and the manufacturer has added another feature this time, such as capturing up to eight photos at a time of exposure.
This feature can also bring better camera performance in difficult night conditions. We have already ordered the Xiaomi 12 Pro for an editorial test, and as soon as the smartphone is delivered to us, we will test the camera in detail.
