Popular brand POCO At the beginning of the year, she introduced the sixth generation of her X series model, specifically POCO X6Pro 5G. The Chinese manufacturer is once again focusing on high performance at an affordable price.
In our detailed review, we will look at the renewed design, the new HyperOS operating system, test the cameras and share our experience from real everyday use of the smartphone.

Quality and contents of the package
smartphone POCO X6 Pro 5G was delivered to us by SPS courier in standard packaging. The smartphone box was placed in an air protective case and a silicone cover.
Mark POCO it remains faithful to the yellow-black packaging with basic accessories in the form of a charger, a USB cable and a protective case with a needle for opening the SIM slot. This time the case is matte black.
In the package of smartphones from POCO nothing has changed in recent years, so both the content and the quality of the packaging are at a good level.
Design and processing
POCO The X6 Pro 5G can be purchased in black, gray or the typical yellow, which is a kind of brand color. The black and gray versions have a plastic back cover and dimensions of 160.45 x 74.34 x 8.25 mm with a weight of 186 g. The yellow variant is 0.1 mm thicker and 4 grams heavier. In this case, the back cover is leather (so-called vegan leather).
We have the yellow variant available for testing, which we really like. In this color, the smartphone is fresh, modern and looks really good. It's a shame to cover it with an ordinary black silicone case, which is included in the package.
The rear module with cameras stretches across the entire width of the smartphone and is thus relatively large. It contains three cameras and an LED that also looks like a camera lens at first glance.
Nothing has changed in the layout of the individual elements of the smartphone, and the manufacturer does not experiment in this direction, but preserves the good old classics. The USB-C charging port is on the bottom, along with the speaker, SIM card slot and microphone. The second speaker, microphone and one of the sensors is again on the top side.
A design element is also the button for turning off or turning on the smartphone, which in this case is yellow, but which is also not visible under the cover.
CrystalRes AMOLED display
IPS displays are slowly disappearing from smartphones from Xiaomi and their subsidiary brands, and this is no exception POCO. POCO The X6 Pro 5G was equipped with a 6.67″ AMOLED display with the attribute CrystalRes.
Its resolution is 2712 x 1220 px with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. The default setting is the dynamic frequency, which changes depending on the current need so that the smartphone can save energy when we do not need a high refresh rate. If we do not want to use this functionality, we can manually set 60 or 120 Hz.
You will also be pleased with the high maximum brightness of 1800 nits and the support of technologies such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass 5. It has relatively thin frames, only 1.3 mm on the sides, while the chin is 2.27 mm.
The display is flat, without rounded sides and in the middle of the upper part it has a well-known cut-out for the selfie camera. It is nice to look at, soft, has bright colors and responds very well to the touch. However, the presentation of colors is slightly cooler, but we can adjust them in the settings. A fingerprint reader is also integrated in the display, which works very well and reliably.
Despite the fact that we have AMOLED here, like other cheaper models with AMOLED displays, neither POCO The X6 Pro 5G does not have a commonly available full active display (always-on). The settings offer always-on display only for 10 seconds after blocking.
How to get a full-fledged always-on display
There is a solution to bypass the 10-second always-on display and get a full-fledged one that does not disappear after 10 seconds. Just activate developer settings and turn off MIUI optimization.
Developer settings are activated by multiple taps on the "Operating system version" item in the phone information, in the settings. After this step, we find "Developer options" in the settings, under the item "Additional settings".
However, you would look for system optimization here in vain. This option is also hidden and only appears after a few taps on the “Reset to defaults” option in the developer options.
After that, the option "Turn on system optimization" will appear in the options, which we need to turn off. Subsequently, the always-on display will no longer turn off after ten seconds, despite the fact that the settings still only offer this one option.
However, we must admit that some other elements of the system deteriorated after these steps. Some icons lost their shape and the battery percentage indicator was not easy to read. It is not an ideal solution.
For the first time also with HyperOS
POCO We received the X6 Pro 5G already with the latest Xiaomi HyperOS system in version 1, specifically, we used it most of the time after updating to the version labeled 1.0.4.0.UNLMIXM. It is based on the latest Android 14.
Since this is the first smartphone with this operating system that we have the opportunity to test, let's take a closer look at it. Let's start with the design, since it is the design changes that everyone notices at first glance.
Compared to MIUI 14, the font style has changed slightly, and the lock screen has also undergone design changes. It displays the current time, date and temperature in relatively large and easy-to-read font. The control center, which is displayed by swiping down on the right side of the screen, has also received a new design. Here, the arrangement of individual elements has changed, and the symbols in them have also been slightly enlarged.
The settings menu also has a different arrangement, and individual categories of settings or the display of information about the smartphone have also undergone a change.
In addition to design changes, safety has also been increased. For example, when giving permission to applications to access files, we can also choose specific files that the application can access if we don't want to grant permission for all of them.
We also found the Quick Ball function here, which is a kind of small ball on the display, with which we can get to the selected links. The default links are to return to the home screen, go to the menu, lock the screen, take a screenshot and a button to go back one step. However, we did not find the announced Dynamic Island, which Xiaomi was supposed to take over from the competing iPhone.
Focused on high performance
Nový POCO The X6 Pro 5G was equipped with a powerful 8-core processor from MediaTek, Dimensity 8300-Ultra. It is manufactured using 4 nm technology and consists of four Arm Cortex-A715 cores with a frequency of up to 3.35 GHz and four Arm Cortex-A510 cores with a maximum frequency of 2.2 GHz. It is complemented by an Arm Mali-G615 MP6 graphics chip with a frequency of 1400 MHz.
Even other hardware specifications do not lag behind the processor. 8 GB of LPDDR5X type RAM and fast UFS 4.0 storage with a capacity of 256 GB will also please you. There is also a higher configuration with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Since we have UFS 4.0 here, by cutting 4 GB from the storage, we can easily increase the RAM memory in the 8 GB version to 12 GB and in the 12 GB version up to 16 GB RAM.
We definitely don't need to talk about the lack of performance here. The smartphone is very fast and there is no danger of slow reactions. In the well-known AnTuTu benchmark, we achieved a score of 1 points with the smartphone.
What are the cameras like?
Nowadays, the quality of cameras plays a high role for most customers when choosing a new smartphone. Brand POCO however, it is already well known for lower-quality cameras in the past, as smartphones have high-end hardware while maintaining a reasonable price. Let's start with the specifications of each camera.
main | 64 Mpx | f / 1.7 | pixel size 1.4μm (4 in 1) | OIS and EIS |
---|---|---|---|---|
ultra-widescreen | 8 Mpx | f / 2.2 | 120 ° FOV | - |
Macro | 2 Mpx | f / 2.4 | - |
Again, we have a similar configuration as in the past, that is, a better main camera and weaker remaining cameras, ultra-wide and macro. So let's start with the main one, which has a resolution of 64 Mpx and folds 4 pixels into one, reaching a pixel size of 1.4 μm. It even has optical and electronic image stabilization.
Surprisingly, it takes very solid photos. The photos from it are sharp with rich colors, which, however, are generally not overly saturated. Although they do not have a completely faithful and realistic presentation, they are not extremely overshot either, which we personally like.
Good dynamic range is also pleasing, which is often a problem with cheaper smartphones. In this way, too underexposed or too overexposed areas are not unnecessarily created.
Of course, the best output is in good lighting conditions, but it also handles the interior solidly. Sometimes the automatic HDR hesitates, does not estimate the scene correctly and overexposes the photo.
The quality of the photos decreases slightly in poorly lit places, where the sharpness decreases slightly and it is more difficult to photograph moving objects, such as children. However, this is generally a difficult discipline even for more expensive cameras.
Ultra-wide camera, zoom, selfie and macro
The ultra-wide-angle camera is only 8 Mpx and is noticeably weaker compared to the main one. It doesn't have that good sharpness, you can see less detail in the photos and it's just average overall. Especially in poor lighting conditions, the sharpness drops significantly and unpleasant noise appears.
In terms of color, the output is different from the main camera. Ultra-wide has less saturated colors that are less warm and have a higher blue content, resulting in a cooler color rendering.
On the other hand, the 2x zoom that is also available, despite the absence of a telephoto lens, has a very similar output to the main camera. The smartphone acquires it precisely with the help of this lens. Zoomed-in photos are almost as sharp, detailed and overall very high quality.
Unfortunately, the macro is only 2 Mpx and we personally would not need it here at all, as its output is not very usable. In addition, it has a fixed focus, which is not always easy to hit. As a result, many photos are out of focus, suitable just for deletion. A better choice would be to skip this camera and spend the costs of using it elsewhere.
Selfie has a resolution of 16 Mpx, which is already a kind of standard and manufacturers do not put much emphasis on it, which is why the quality of the selfie camera in smartphones of this class has not changed much in recent years. The output is average and doesn't offer too much detail. However, it is enough for video calls and occasional simple selfies.
Night mode
Night photos are also quite decent, especially those from the main camera. All lenses give the best output with well-lit objects at night, for example with street lighting.
If we take pictures of objects that are not illuminated or are illuminated only very poorly, sharpness drops significantly even with the main camera. If we compare the ultra-wide-angle and the main camera, the color rendering is significantly different. The colors with the ultra-wide angle lens are much cooler here. These photos also have visibly less detail.
Video
The maximum video recording resolution is 4K at 30 fps. POCO in the X6 Pro 5G model, it also presents image stabilization, not only electronic but also optical. Stabilization works even at the highest resolution, but it's not perfect. In the video, you can see slight shaking in certain parts of the footage, but overall it's not bad at all. Too bad we only have 30 frames per second available.
The lower resolution, 1080p, also supports 60 fps. In the settings, we can also manually turn on better image stabilization, but this option immediately reduces the resolution to 1080p at 30 fps
Battery and charging
In the field of batteries, nothing has changed for several years, and it is no different in this case. Again, we have a 5000 mAh battery, which will take care of an average of one day's endurance on a single charge. However, everything depends on the intensity and method of use, so it is not a problem to discharge the smartphone sooner, but on the other hand, it can also last us longer than average.
The package includes a 67 W charging adapter with a USB to USB-C cable. Charging is thus relatively fast and it takes approximately 20 minutes from 100% to 44%. You can find the entire charging process in the table below:
capacity | time |
---|---|
20 - 50% | 11 minutes and 35 seconds |
75% | 24 minutes and 38 seconds |
90% | 33 minutes and 27 seconds |
100% | 44 minutes and 16 seconds |
Connectivity and speakers
As the name suggests, new POCO from the sixth series it supports 5G networks and overall it is quite good in terms of connectivity. Its equipment includes, for example, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and several localization systems. There is also the popular NFC for mobile payments.
The speakers are in both the bottom and top edges and play quite well. Of course, it's not the best on the market and they could use some extra bass, but they certainly won't offend.
POCO X6 Pro 5G: Final review
Nový POCO The X6 Pro 5G surprised us very positively. It offers a 6.67″ AMOLED display with the attribute CrystalRes and especially high-end hardware while maintaining a reasonable price. The brain of the smartphone is a powerful 8-core processor Dimensity 8300 Ultra. It is complemented by fast LPDDR5X type RAM and also the latest generation of fast UFS 4.0 storage.
You will also be pleased with the decent main camera, which the new product is certainly not ashamed of. We also have the latest operating system from Xiaomi, HyperOS, and the attractive design of the back cover in yellow vegan leather is also interesting. Overall, we rate the smartphone very positively.
