Xiaomi apparently decided to experiment a bit and patented the scrolling display technology. It will scroll from both sides and give the user the opportunity to be more productive at work.
Scrolling the display from both sides
According to a report from the PhoneArena portal, the patented devices are equipped with a display that can be scrolled from both the right and left side, which could turn the classic size of a smartphone into a tablet, which would contribute to greater productivity on a larger display.
The size of the scrollable display could then be adjusted according to use. The user would choose a different ratio, for example, when watching videos and a different one when editing photos or editing a video. Once assembled, it would be a classic smartphone. When fully exploded, the display resembles a square format.
When viewed from the back, this design may be reminiscent of the company's well-known concept called Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, which had a display almost all over the smartphone and cameras in the middle in the middle so as not to disturb the design of the display. We can expect something like that here as well.
The vertically stacked module consists of only two cameras and an LED flash. This is probably the best location so that the cameras do not interfere with the scroll mechanism. In the form of a tablet, Xiaomi could then deploy desktop mode MIUI PC, which we already know from the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold smartphone.
This would give the smartphone better work with windows, applications and, last but not least, a better display of applications adapted to large screens.
The competition is not asleep either
Recently, Oppo introduced the Oppo X 2021, which also has a scrollable display, but only on one side. Xiaomi is working on his own form of a scrollable display and we can see that this is not unrealistic and that we could really see such a device in the near future. We already know that Xiaomi is preparing other folding smartphones, where they could set the price tag even lower.
