Problem with proper functioning proximity sensor it's really annoying on a smartphone. However, these are possible solutions that you can also apply to your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone.
This is how you fix the proximity sensor
During last summer, Xiaomi began to solve rather extensive problems with the proximity sensor, known as proximity sensor. The problem affected thousands of users on selected models of the brand.
This sensor is responsible for turning off the screen when receiving a call, as well as when listening to a voice message or other audio attachments from most supported applications, such as WhatsApp or Telegram. The manufacturer's survey focused on the type of failure, how often the sensor failure reoccurs, or what application was used on these attachments.
The conclusion of the survey was that sensor failure was most common in the following models:
- Xiaomi Mi 10T
- Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro
- Xiaomi Mi 10T Liten
- Xiaomi MiNote 10 Lite
- Redmi Note 10
- Notes redmi 10 Pro
These devices contain a virtual sensor and it is this that causes more problems compared to the optical one. If you think that the problem with the proximity sensor also concerns your device, we know several options for a solution that you can try.
Calibrate the sensor manually
On your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO device, you can calibrate the sensor manually, specifically through the menu CIT (Control and Identification Toolbox). You can access this menu via the "Phone" application. Just enter the code ##6484#*## and click on calling.
In the hidden menu, where you can find all the sensors and components of your smartphone, look for the number 22 with the label "Proximity Sensor". After clicking on this item, you must cover the proximity sensor until the number that appears on the screen changes from five to zero. The proximity sensor is usually located at the top of the device, at the level of the speaker for making calls.
Software alternative using MIUI
Despite the fact that the software alternative disappeared with the arrival of the MIUI 12.5 version, calibration through the graphics superstructure is still available on those devices that have the version MIUI 12.04 or older. A few simple steps are enough for this calibration:
- Open "Settings"
- Select "Applications"
- Then "System application settings"
- Click on "Call settings"
- And go to the "Incoming calls" folder
In this menu, you have the option to activate or deactivate the proximity sensor, also known as the proximity sensor. It is generally recommended to disable this feature for a while and then re-enable it.

I've had the 11 Lite 5G NE for about a month and I'm ripe for a return. Quite normally, I run my ear in the phone settings when I'm on the phone. And I can also dial numbers, start the camera, etc. in my pocket. This happens if the phone is turned with the display towards the body. I haven't experienced this with any other phone.
I have a Mi 10T pro, version MIUI 13.0.8. Similar problems, the display lights up during a call, the sound turns off, numbers are dialed. With this version of MIUI, it is no longer possible to set/disable the sensor through the settings, the code to the "CIT" menu does not work - "Problem with connection or invalid MMI code".
That's exactly how I have it on the Mi10T pro, the CIT doesn't work either, and the proximity sensor is also not possible through the call settings.
Also 11 Lite 5G – instructions for setting up the sensor do not work, when I talk on the phone with my ear I start anything...
