It was gifted nothing by YouTuber JerryRigEverything, who really put its durability to the test. The tests mainly concerned the camera module, which is truly gigantic. But we know why it is, because it hides a large 1-inch sensor Sony IMX989.
Metal frame and the best protective glass on the market
The good news is that there is also a basic one in the package rubber protective cover. But it only goes around the entire camera module and does not protect it directly. Even the packaging doesn't do it justice because it really stands out a lot.
Before the test, there was a suspicion that the new rear camera module could be a weak point last generation, but actual tests have shown the exact opposite.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra has a premium back design with silicone skin and a metal frame that provides high durability. The frame is interrupted by plastic only on the upper side, where the antennas are probably located.
So it was no problem to actually damage it in the knife test. However, the smartphone display currently has the best glass in the form Corning Gorilla Glass Foods and can resist scratches really successfully.
You can't just break the Xiaomi 12S Ultra
Overall, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra smartphone remained fully functional during all tests and passed successfully. In the bend tests, it performed no worse than some premium smartphones with the Android operating system. The metal frame holds together perfectly, it loosened only in the transition between the camera module and the rest of the body, where there is again a plastic partition for the antenna.
When burning the display with a lighter, it is therefore no surprise that burnt pixels remain on the display. However, at the end of the video, JerryRigEverything praised Xiaomi for the excellent work done in the area of construction quality, which would be appropriate for a premium smartphone in this price category.
We are already testing the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in the editorial office, but we will certainly not expose our device to such extreme tests. From the first impressions, we can also confirm the fantastic design processing and the premium "feeling" that directly radiates from the smartphone.
